THE JUNGLE JOURNAL – 10/16/17

STATE OF THE JUNGLE
Victor Landeta, Daniel Rodriguez, and Edwin Solis are in the middle of their fight camps for the ACC event on 11/11/17.  All 3 men are just looking to get in the cage after long layoffs.  Victor Landeta hasn’t been in the cage in a couple of years himself so he is ready to dominate whoever they put in front of him.  Leo ” The Mexicutioner” Muniz is ready to get back after it since his first pro loss.  “The Mexicutioner” is an exciting fighter so everyone is looking forward to his return.

KIDS PROGRAM
What seems intense and to aggressive for most, is regular training for use here at the Jungle Gym, even in our kids program!  Every Thursday the students of our Lions Of Leadership program get to participate in our stand up sparring class. Our Sparring class includes punching, kicking, takedowns and submissions.  Now, why is this type of training important? It puts your child in a situation as close as possible to what a real altercation might be like.  With this type of training kids are getting comfortable using the techniques they’ve learned in class with a partner who’s throwing punches and kicks at them.  This is going to allow them to get comfortable in these situations, so that if it happens outside of the gym, it won’t be their first time dealing with it.  If any of you have questions on sparring or getting your child in the Lions of Leadership program, let us know at the front desk.

Lions of Leadership Open Mat is Every Sunday at HQ and Next Month on November 25th at Jungle Gym New Rochelle. These are great training sessions so do your best to be there.

TEENS PROGRAM
You guys should be drilling!  Now we all know drilling isn’t the most exciting to to do, and we all would much rather just get into rolling. Now rolling is definitely an important part of improving your Jiu Jitsu, you also have to make sure you’re spending enough time drilling as well. When you’re drilling you get to practice your techniques as close to perfect as possible. It’s hard to practice a new technique when you have someone resisting everything you attempt. Drilling also allows you to burn many repetitions of a technique from what ever position you want. It’d be pretty hard for a newer student to practice their Americana from topside if he’s rolling with someone who’s guard he can’t pass. So make sure you guys have a good balance. When you come in for Open Mat feel free to grab a partner and work that technique you learned earlier in the week. If any of you guys have questions on this feel free to ask any of your coaches.

FIGHTERELLA
The best way to mastery in any subject is taking it step by step. This is especially true when we talk about losing weight, getting in shape, or achieving a healthier life style. Maybe today isn’t the day you do a pull up, but you could definitely take the steps towards that goal. The most important thing is that you just do something, anything really, that brings you closer to your goals. The one thing you want to avoid is remaining stagnant with old habits that never moved you to the goal you want so hard to achieve.

THE JUNGLE GYM TRIBE LETTER – 10/2/17

STATE OF THE JUNGLE
Coming up in November, we have Edwin Solis, Daniel Rodriguez, and Victor Landeta fighting for 3 MMA titles at the Aggressive Combat Championships. Daniel Rodriguez is on the cusp of going pro so this fight will help sharpen his skills for the jump to pro.  Coming off of a win Edwin is looking to keep that momentum going. Victor is getting back in the cage after getting a taste for victory years ago in his first couple of fights. Tickets will be available soon.

KIDS PROGRAM
It’s all about repetitions!  I’ve been asked several times by parents about what can be done to help their child improve. To put it simply, they just have to keep showing up.  The more times a week your child is showing up to class, the faster progress you’re going to see.  For kids who are eligible, the Lions of Leadership Program is going to be another way to skyrocket your child’s progress. In this program kids will spend more time on the mat and begin to learn more advanced techniques with more individual attention. If you want to know more about our Lions of Leadership Program, see us at the front desk.

Lions of Leadership Open Mat is Every Sunday at HQ and this Month on October 14th at Jungle Gym New Rochelle. These are great training sessions so do your best to be there.

TEENS PROGRAM
So I’ve been asked recently about how one can speed up their progress. The simple answer is show up.  The more time you’re spending on the mat, the more progress you’re going to see.   It’s simply through doing more repetitions of the techniques that they start to become second nature. So make sure that you guys are showing up to class throughout the week where we go over and drill techniques and show up to the Open Mats, where you guys will get some live rolling. So to sum it all up in the simplest way possible, Just train!

FIGHTERELLA
“Who’s the Weak Link”

One of the ladies asked this question during a particularly tough workout. She had noticed that one of the other ladies had changed the weight she was using and had forgotten to put it back, prompting her to ask the question. Now in this women’s defense her recent exposure to our rough and tumble MMA classes had left her a little jaded in her language, all the same as the coach it was my duty to remind here of the very same truth I’m about to pass on to you all.

There are no weak links.Every lady within the program is working as hard as she can towards that healthier lifestyle and compare her progress to someone else or ridicule there hard work is wrong. So always remember:
“Compete only on yourself AND never feel sorry for yourself”.
